Emerald AI develops software that turns AI data centres into flexible assets for the power grid. Its Emerald Conductor platform links utilities and data-centre operators in real time, simulates a site's power behaviour with a digital twin and orchestrates compute workloads, slowing or pausing batch jobs and shifting inference between sites, so that a data centre can cut its draw during grid stress without breaking service commitments; a July 2025 demonstration with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, NVIDIA and the utility Salt River Project in Phoenix showed the approach on a live GPU cluster. The company was founded in 2024 by Varun Sivaram, its chief executive, and is headquartered in Washington, DC, with offices in Boston and San Francisco; it employed more than 35 people in August 2026. Emerald has run flexibility pilots with Digital Realty, PJM, Dominion Energy, National Grid in the UK, Portland General Electric and Silicon Valley Power, and announced design partnerships with AES, Constellation, Invenergy, NextEra, Nscale and Vistra at CERAWeek 2026. It has raised more than $220 million, including a $150 million Series A at a $1.05 billion valuation in August 2026 co-led by Energize Capital and DCVC with NVIDIA and Siemens.
