Lighthouse
Lighthouse was a Palo Alto home-security company that built a 3D-sensing, AI-powered indoor camera. Its system combined depth sensing with computer vision to tell people from pets, recognise faces and answer plain-language questions such as whether the dog walker had been. Founded around 2015 by Alex Teichman and Hendrik Dahlkamp, both from Stanford's self-driving car work, it left stealth in May 2017 with $17 million from Playground Global, Eclipse Ventures, SignalFire and Sebastian Thrun, and shipped a $299 camera in February 2018. It shut down in December 2018, refunding customers, after failing to find a market at that price.
