MicroHarvest
MicroHarvest produces single-cell protein by fermenting bacteria, sold as ingredients for animal feed and pet food, including the HILIX range for aquafeed and the MPX CARE and MPX BOOST ingredients for pet food. Pet food brands VEGDOG and THE PACK have launched products made with its protein. Founded in Hamburg in 2021, it is led by co-chief executives Katelijne Bekers and Jonathan Roberz, with co-founder Luísa Cruz as chief technology officer, and runs a research subsidiary in Lisbon, where it opened a pilot plant in November 2023. In 2026 it announced a 15,000-tonne-a-year production plant in Leuna, Germany, supported by a federal grant of up to €5.46 million. It raised an €8.5 million Series A co-led by Astanor Ventures and Happiness Capital in September 2022 and €1.5 million led by Simon Capital in May 2023.
