Modal runs a serverless cloud for AI, data and machine-learning workloads: teams write ordinary Python and Modal provisions the GPUs, containers and autoscaling behind it, so code that needs a cluster for ninety seconds does not need a cluster provisioned for a day. Its sandboxes product, which gives an AI agent an isolated machine to run code in, is a $300m annualised business on its own. The company crossed $1bn in annualised run rate in October 2026 and employs more than 200 people across New York, San Francisco and Stockholm.
