WD, formerly branded Western Digital, is a data-storage company founded in 1970 and headquartered in San Jose, California. It develops and manufactures hard disk drives and storage platforms for cloud and enterprise data centres, businesses and consumers. Its offerings include Ultrastar data-centre drives and storage systems and WD-branded hard drives. Western Digital Corporation remains its legal name. The company separated its flash business into the independent Sandisk Corporation in February 2025.
