X-energy
X-energy designs the Xe-100, a helium-cooled, graphite-moderated small modular reactor rated at 80 MWe (200 MWth) per unit, and makes TRISO-X coated-particle nuclear fuel at a facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The Rockville, Maryland company was founded in 2009 by Kam Ghaffarian, its chairman, and is led by chief executive J. Clay Sell. Its first deployment is a four-unit plant at Dow's Seadrift, Texas site, whose construction permit application the Nuclear Regulatory Commission docketed in May 2025; in February 2026 the NRC issued a 40-year licence for the Oak Ridge fuel facility. Amazon invested in 2024 and in August 2025 joined X-energy, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and Doosan Enerbility to scale Xe-100 deployment for data-centre power. X-energy listed on Nasdaq (XE) on 24 April 2026 and reported 916 employees as of 17 March 2026.
