Title: Scout, Northeast Department: Domestic Scouting Location: Remote / Northeast region Reports To: Assistant Director, Domestic Scouting FLSA Status: Full-time, Exempt Role Overview: This position will require applicant to identify and evaluate amateur prospects in the Northeast region of the United States in preparation for the First-Year Player Draft, in addition to other assigned scouting duties. This position will report through the Domestic Scouting department and work with all types of baseball operations personnel. Key Responsibilities: Primary duties to include, but not limited to, the following: Evaluate & recommend amateur players for the First-Year Player Draft Develop a comprehensive understanding of Orioles’ values & strategy Communicate and collaborate with employees throughout the Orioles organization. Utilize video, scouting information, data & technology to enhance decision making on players Compose scouting reports on draft eligible players Build relationships with players and families of players Build & maintain relationships with programs/coaches in the region Assess player’s makeup through various avenues including player interviews, coach connections and other means. Plan and organize workouts for staff to evaluate players Maintain an organized schedule and manage time effectively to ensure area coverage Collect video on draft eligible players and upload to video system Perform and execute Pro Scouting coverage as assigned Represent Orioles organization in a professional manner Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university Ability to work long hours, evenings, weekends, holidays, & often in adverse outdoor conditions Ability to own and operate a vehicle and travel extensively Strong ability to self-motivate, self-organize, and attention to detail Exceptional communication skills High computer and internet proficiency Strong knowledge of baseball information & evaluation At least 3 years’ experience from a variety of backgrounds, which can include: Scouting, Coaching, Education, Business, or other fields. Prior playing experience EXEMPTION STATUS: This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). It requires the consistent exercise of independent judgment, oversight of major partnership accounts, and significant cross-functional collaboration. Because the role includes managing strategic responsibilities, operating autonomously, and working outside standard business hours during games and events, the Manager is not eligible for overtime pay.
